i whould not recomend 450s if you ride on tight trails. there engines are made to be reved much more than a 400ex ltz400 yfm700 type of engines. a 400ex is going to be much better than a 450r on tighter trails.

 

I will be riding mostly on tighter trails. That's about all that's around where I live. From what most of you are saying the 400ex would be the best choice. Do all the other 400's from the different manufacturers fall into the same catagory as the Honda 400ex ? If so, that would give me alot more choices in finding something priced right. If not, which one's would ? Thanks for the help....

 

z 400 is a liquid cooled more up to date 400 ex they are proven and I am looking at one with a big bore kit for myself try to get a 04 they have better shocks and some other improvements. for regular trail riding it and the kfx 700 are the best in the buisness. Also the KFX400 artic cat DVX400 and Z400 are all the same bike.

 

there may be better options out there. the 400ex has been relatively unchanged since it came out in the 90's. that just goes to show how well built they are. they now have the new look that i dont care much for and have the added feature of reverse. they are a great and reliable machine tho and can take a pounding. really if i was going to buy a new sport quad i might steer away from the honda just because of the looks, but thats my personal preferance. i still love the 400ex that i own.

get the 400ex there proven to last and be great. i hope to get one soon in the future.

 

Thanks for all the input on my question. I bought a Suzuzki Z400 this weekend. Found it on craigslist.com from a girl who won it in a Bikini contest......... It's a black 2007 Z400 that only had a couple hours on it from them riding it and taking pictures for the contest advertisement. I ended up getting it for $3800. I thought that was a pretty good deal considering they go for $6000 and it's just about new.....
