Default What should I buy for my son?

I am looking for a good ATV for my 9 year old son. I just sold his 90 Polaris because it just couldn't go where larger ATV's can, nor did it have the suspension to handle his riding ability (mud, jumps, hills, etc...).

My only good option so far is the New 250 Raptor (only 300lbs). I know he is young, but they don't make a good ATV for experienced kids in the 150cc range. Also, before you worry, he is all geared up and races a KX65 so he is experienced and understands true power.

Still looking and just asking for good advice.

PS. Anyone own or seen the new Can-Am DS-90-X?

why not an ozark or recon that be better for the mud than the raptor, but not for jumps.

The 250 Ozark and Recon are both 4x2's, and for the price, I think the Raptor is better for all around use including the mud. The down fall of the Raptor is it's a chain drive vs. shaft, which accounts for the lighter weight.

id go wth the raptor it looks like loads of fun. every review i've read on it. makes me think its the best 250 in its class just have to watch the low swing arm ground clearance of 3.9 inches though.

I would go for the raptor, its a great little machine, and I rode about that size for several years after his age, so he might not have to upgrade for a while either.

i would try to get something light...in case it rolls. i would also get a sport type - no steel racks and a lower center of gravity.

I just stopped by the local Yamaha dealer, and guess what; the 250 Raptor is no longer an option...NO REVERSE!

I am now looking at the Honda TRX250EX. It's shaft driven with reverse but also 45lbs heavier. The Good news is I can get a new 07 for $2583 from a dealer in TN, which is over $1000 less than the Raptor.

Unless someone has a good reason not to get the Honda, it's a done deal.

Thanks

my 9 year old daughter had an arctic cat dvx 250..... pure crap, its a kymco with cat skin. she wanted to ride trails and mud, so i got her a cat 400, but the second choice was the wolv 350 4x4. but if weight is a factor, the honda is a good choice.
