Don't know where your from. The price varies from state to state. My son in law just sold his 05 EX for $3500.00 But it had alot of extra's on it and was in mint condition. I bought my Z400 which is a great all around Quad for $ 5200.00 cash out the door new. We live in NV. At your age I would say be looking in the 400 range. Anything less you will get tired of real quick. Just my way of thinking. Other's may disagree. In any case good luck with your choice. And welcome to the fourm.

Try to get a 05' or newer because they come with reverse and it becomes very helpful in tight situations. $3,500.00 is about right that's what I am trying to sell mine for hope I can get it. Just selling it cause I want one of the old 250r 3 wheelers. Never had any issues with mine. There is a recall on them for the reverse gear though so make sure if you get a newer one that is has been taken care of, you can check by calling a dealer in your area and they can run your serial number to see if it's been fixed.

Better to grow into it, than grow out of it.

At 17/18 y/o, get a 400EX if you are on a budget. Quads are underpowered compared to bikes. If you are the type that can ride within your abilities and not be a knucklehead, then don't waste your $$ on a smaller quad. You will wish you had a bigger one after 6 months. Remember, riding over your head is the quickest way to crash. Get a quad and get yourself to a riders course so you don't become a statistic.
