2000-2006 ATV's With Lockers
 

Hey all! First timer to ATV connection here.

As I've posted in the AC Forum, I plan to downsize from jeep rock crawlers to 4x4 ATV's. I grew up on 4 wheelers, but mostly of the 2wd variety. So I don't know much about 4wd's

In the rock-crawling world, lockers are a necessity if you want to perform well. Looking for a used ATV, lockers are close to the top of my list of requirements.

For the record, my budget seems to lean towards model years 2000-2006.

Questions:

1.) What are the more popular model 4x4 quads that came standard with lockers? What model years?

2.) If a quad has a locking front diff, is it safe to assume that the rear is locked as well? IRS & Solid?

3.) Are aftermarket lockers available for most models? Are they an affordable option?

1.) Im pretty sure that Kawi, Yami, and Suzi all have front diff lockers. Polaris has and AWD system that i hear is great for rocks.

2.) yes. go IRS. more clearance, and you will be glad you did.

3.) i have no idea.

Welcome to the forum Starvin. Polaris doesn't have lockers in the normal sense of the word because they don't have diffs, except the 2-ups with turf mode have a rear diff. If the rear wheels start to slip the front locks in until the rear quits slipping. Sheepdog made some videos that show how fast the 4x4 engages. When 4x4 engages it has the same kind of traction you get from two solid axles. The first half of this video shows how it works. They've been making them that way over 20 years and there are lots of used ones CHEAP.
