Buying my first Brand New quad. Have a few in mind, need some help plz

Hey Guys,

So I have owned many quads but I have never bought one brand new, I am unbiased when it comes to the manufacturer, but I have owned a few Yamahas and Hondas and enjoy them both they have been solid, reliable machines.

Therein lies the problem I know i can count on both of them to maintain that reputation, but as I am looking at buying a new sport quad I am having a problem comparing the 450s and up, they all seem pretty close in comparison.

I don't go to the track, mainly trails and dunes. I currently have an older 400ex modded out and absolutely love it. I just think its time to upgrade.

I have done some research on all the current sport quads, and I have narrowed it down to a few obvious choices, Yamahas YFZ450R, and the 700 Raptor, and the Honda TRX450R. Besides the obvious price difference what are some other ups and downs to these quads as far as comparison? I'm having a really hard time deciding which one would suite me better as i really enjoy all three...any help would be greatly appreciated, and taken into much consideration. Thanks everyone

First off I have no first hand experience with a raptor 700r, however I would think it would be the best at dunes because of the power. Dirt rider mag. reviewed the 450cc racing quads from Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki for trails and the Yamaha YFZ450r did the best on the trails. However I like Hondas personally. If you are looking for a sporty all around quad I would say YFZ450r.

The 450 are pure sport track ATVs with high revving 450 motocross motors. The 700 Raptor makes the same 45hp but it can do it lazily and with much more bottom end torque . Good choice if lower mentance and much higher hours before a top end rebuild are not your thing.

Agree with TLC. If you want reliable low maintenance performance, the 700 is the ticket. The 450's are race-class machines which have a much more onerous maintenance schedule.

My advice, keep the 400ex and save your money. But I'm cheap lol.
