Yep, won't get to ride daily or weekly, so I want and ATV that is going to be solid and ready to roll when I am.

quite a few Polaris on local Craigslist (some have high miles). I'm not really interested in 800 class engines, but the wife will want power steering:

2011 850, $6,300
2012 850 XP, LE, $6000
2010 850 EPS, $5,800
2015 570, $5,500
2008 800 LE, $5,295
2010 550 EPS,$5,195
2011 550, $4,995
2012 500, $4,200
2008 800 EFI, winch and plow, $4,100
2007 700 EFI, $4,000
2012 camo 550, EFI, $4,000
2011 Red Sportsman 550 EFI, $4,000
2012 Sportsman 500 HO, $4,000

To get power steering, you will need to get at least a 550. The 500, 700, and 800 never offered power steering. The 570 and 850 have power steering. Yamaha models Grizzly 550 and 700 offered power steering, those are 2 more I would look at for used quads with eps. I have rode a Grizzly 700 with eps and even in 4x4, it makes steering very easy. Most of the other manufacturers(Can-Am, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Arctic Cat, and even Honda) didn't offer eps until much later than Yamaha and Polaris.

If you do long rides, say, 100+ miles per day, you'll want the power steering. On the Can-Am you can switch between 3 settings. I usually start the day with minimum assist. Most the time, I go up to medium around the end of the day. If I'm doing tree work in tight spots I just leave it in maximum the whole day. It's nice to have.

That's a pretty good deal for that mileage. First glance makes me think it's someone who wanted to use it to get out hunting and didn't go.

Update: It has valid title (on phone he didn't think had one). I saw it, along with all original paper work, invoice from dealer when he purchased ($10,500). Said he got good deal on it. Verified only ~350 miles, 25 hours.

Options included:
Polaris winch, $379 (w/ extra switch)
Front lock and ride storage container, $170
Heated hand grips, $55
ATV Cover, $150
Rear rack extender, $99
Dust covers for shocks, ?
Custom hitch (he's a welder), ?

Drove around block...gets up and goes. No leaks, no scratches, just a little dusty from riding dirt roads. Honestly, it looks brand-damn new.

He's probably mid 20's, has just purchased second Harley, has nice Silverado and an S-10 project truck in his garage (low rider). Welder, travels a lot...seems like nice guy. We talked for probably 40 minutes.

Asking $6,000, I talked him down to $5,200. NADA book value is $7,400, low retail is $5,611.

Talking over with the wife...I think I'm going to be the proud new owner of a 2013 Sportsman 550 Browning Edition.

Stoked!
