Buying Suggestions for New 4x4 Utility ATV under $7K
#11
A 2018 Outlander 450 lists for $5,999, so a 2017 for $5,000 sounds good. But the dealer must be overcharging you to make up for it. How much is your sales tax? Mine is 6% but it was only 4% a long time ago. If your taxes are really high, that would make a difference, but $1,700 for taxes and fees is too much.

Unfortunately that sounds about right. The manufacturers offer lower prices then add fees on for the dealers such as the setup fee. These machines used to come in a crate fully assembled, just adjust the handlebars and top off all the fluids and add a battery. Now they come in a crate but require assembly of handlebars and fenders and racks etc, the factory saves money but requires more work from the dealers, so they pass on the extra charges to the new owner. Used machines are already assembled so no charge there. Nothing wrong with a good well maintained machine!

Apparently they are making up on the low price by charging more for the other fees. Got an estimate for a Polaris Sportsman 450 for $5500, but with the fees and taxes, it actually costs less. $700+ less. Freight $200 set up $90 Doc Fee $55 Tire Tax $7 Sales Tax $423.69. I now know what I will NOT be buying. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I really appreciate it!
