Help! Bought my first quad (or any power toy for that matter) fall '01. Bought a recon (es) and love it. Here's the problem, I have mastered the recon and am ready to consider racing (hare scrambles or cross country). My racing aquaintances can't believe I've riden less than a year and my husband is gripping at me for bottoming out the shocks jumping. Have tried a 250ex and my husband's new Z400. Really don't want to slow down enough to spend the time to master shifting but love jumping. Does any one make a quad for hare scrambles, dunes, trails, and jumping in an automatic or electric shift?

You will be severely limiting yourself to attempt that on an automatic.
Just learn how to shift, and you will open up a whole new world of opportunities as far as machines go.

i have to agree with 2fun if you learn to use the clutch you'll be alot better off. just get a 400ex play around and master it and go from there... good luck

prarie 650. smooth powwer automatic, high speeed and the suspension is stiff enough for harescrambles. not motocross. if you want to really race , id get into the 400ex or even the raptor, these you have to mannually shift but they are race ready out of the box. the 400ex has no reverse and the raptor does. try a hare scramble od your recon first to see if you like that type of raceing. 100's of racers in all classes at one time...............fun fun fun did it on a cr250 and a kdx240, and an xr250. i loved it. good luck

If you can swing the extra money,go with another Z400,you will grow to love the power and suspension, and you will pick up the shifting in no time,my 11 yr. old son went from a Recon to a 300 ex,and only took him a couple of days of causual riding around the yard to get the clutching down, after that,he was jumping a sliding like a vetran. With 2 quads the same, you won't have to keep different parts and tools handy, and you get to enjoy the look on his face the first time you smoke him !!!!
