I have a question

Polaris quads are nice, but their big and heavy. My brother has a 400 4x4 scrambler. It's a nice quad but I personally won't own it. Just to let you know where I am coming from I race a Cannondale speed, Had 2 different 86 lt250r quadracer and 91 quadracer. So if it's not fast I don't care to much for it. The big thing about the polaris is the type of riding you plan on doing. If it's some trail riding and using the thing to pull something go with the 400 polaris. The 250 is a nice quad that is a little bigger and about the same speed as a blaster. What I would do is talk your dad into going to a dealer that has the polaris quads and the z400 and let him ride both and you ride both if the dealer will let you and decide from there. We can tell you all kinds of ones to buy and not to but in the end is what you like that matters for what you use it for.

dont know much about Pol's, but out here in the great northwest we use a lot of yamahas. i just got a blaster to keep the raptor company, cuz i see them everywhere i go riding! good little scoot, a blast! been around a long time, a proven design, everybody has parts, and if you want, you can surprise a lot of bigger quads! may as well get the manual 6 speed now.. you're gonna have to master one anyway...
pickup up ANY quad mag and count the ads for Blaster mods! if you're on a budget, the blaster is the guy. if, however, your brother is only a year older and 6'4".....then, we gotta rethink this! have fun

i would go w/ a 300ex, i think it has reverse, and it still has power, and even w/ you being the experienced rider, i dont think it will be too eay for you. I wouldn't go w/ a polaris personally, from what i hear, they have reliabilty issues, and like lt250r said, they are big, and really heavy. good luck w/ your decision.

I race quads and I've only replaced one clutch in 4 years of racing do to burning it up and that was because I sat for 15-25 minutes with the thing in gear and the clutch pulled in waiting to find and way around the 100 quad bottleneck.
As for climbing hills the difficultly is about the same on a manual and an auto. The only difference is being in the right gear and knowing when to downshift if needed. It is easy to tell when to downshift and the right gear is just a matter of knowing the machine.
I still think the best thing to is ride the machines you are interested in and then buy the one you like and you feel is best for the type of riding you are going to be doing.
The scrambler tops out in the high 50's to low 60's. That is fast for a machine weighting over 600lbs. Remember Polaris quads are big and heavy. Personally because of the size I don't like them and feel they aren't that much fun to trail ride. This is my experience on my brothers 400 4x4 scrambler. The 250 trailblazer is a little smaller and lighter.
Goodluck and I hope you and your dad get a machine that both of you want and like.
