Suzuki 250 Ozark

I'm going to use it for play but I want to be able to use it to possibly mow my 5 acre lot someday or at least haul stuff around.

After looking at this again the clear pick would be the Suzuki because you will need more power if your going to pull a mower around.

PmanX8---I obviously do not have access to every quad in the 250cc range. But I do have access to the tested facts written in some magazines. I will always believe a magazine with access to the quads before someone's opinion. Unless the person has each or some of the models and has alot of experience on the quads with access to a GPS or radar gun. There are some magazines that I trust alot more than others. Some magazines rely on opinions more than facts. Like (DW). The facts were from the 6/11/02 issue of ATV magazine. I do believe that the Recon could be faster than the TrailBoss. The TrailBoss weighs 107 lbs. more than the Recon. Wt. to power ratio! The gearing is also very different. The trailBoss would also take more servicing because it has chain drive. The TrailBoss does have a 850 towing compared to the Ozark at 730 which is the highest of the 250's.
Chandler1989--- I would be concerned about buying a 2000 Honda that has required transmission work. The previous owner might have been hard on it and just traded to get rid of it. I'm not sure that $2995. is a good price for a 2000 Rancher. You should check NADA, KelleyBlueBook or check local papers to see what price people are selling them at. If you really want it then tell them they have to throw 2 back tires in before you'll buy it. 2 good back tires with NO additional cost to you. Good luck!

All of the quads in your list are suitable to scoot around on and do a little work. If is all what you prefer. The Ozarkand recon have to be the "sportiest" of the bunch, but all are proven designs for thier intended purpose.

The chain drive in the polaris is concern if you ride mud,but like anything else if you stay on top of maintainance issues it shouldn't be a problem.

I just dont see why you are Comparing some 250's against the Trailboss. the Trailboss is a 330cc.
alot different, thats why it weighs more and has higher power and towing rate.the "trailBlazer" is the 250. which by the way is a cool quad as well, but on the larger and heavier side.

PmanX8- Are you talking to me or chandler1989? At the bottom of original question, chandler1989 said that he has considered the TrailBoss along with the 250's.

I was talking to you. Im not Starting anything, im just saying that they are two different classes, but i think they are all awesome quads when it comes to just having fun, and riding around. but each one has its own ups and downs to it.

I bought a 2002 Honda Recon for $2650 and it's in perfect shape. It kicks tail. I've already used it to tear out some old fencing and drag brush around; plenty of low end torque and a good top end. A buddy has a Honda 250EX Sport and we rode a couple of trails and I had no problems keeping up with him. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Looks like you got a 2002 Recon at a fair price.

One thing about changing the oil if you use the bottom drain plug it will create a mess.

There is another drain plug which is at the rear under the engine. You will see it if you peek under the right foot peg where the frame connects underneath. It is the same threaded bolt as the main drain plug.

What I do is jack up the front end and then drain the oil out the rear plug and you have no mess under the skid plate.
