What GPS
What gps do you use?
Im somewhat torn between a delorne ps-40, Garmin Oregon 400t, or a Garmin 60csx |
I had a Garmin Map 76s. Very nice unit with more features than I will ever use. Recently got a Garmin Nuvi 500. It does regular driving GPS functions and also off road as well with a topographical map. Nice mix of both uses. I got it at Cabelas for $299.99 or so. I really like it and can't wait to try it out on my next quad ride.

Have you tried it out yet Moose? How do you like it?
I've been wanting to get one myself but can't seem to decide what one to get. |
I got to try it out last Saturday. It worked great. I plugged it into the 12V accessory port on the headlight pod and ran it for hours. Nice unit. Leaves a trail so you can backtrack if you get lost. Shows topography and elevations depending on how zoomed in you are. I used it both to get there and to ride in the woods. I liked it a lot. No complaints whatsoever. Another nice feature is that I can get a memory card with inland lakes that plugs into the GPS where the battery goes. It gives depths and the lakes outlines and islands. I'm thinking of getting the one for up here in the Northeast.

Thanks for the feedback Moose! I think I'll look into that model today.

It's tons easier to navigate with than the Map 76s was. The touch screen usability with basic topography and elevations is why I got it.

I was just about to ask the same question when I noticed this post.. Moose, how do you mount the Nuvi to your ATV? I have an older Nuvi that does not offer off road however I like the ease of use. Is there a nice mounting bracket that would allow it to mount to the Quad without falling off and will it take abuse?? Also, is there a rechargeable battery on board? Thanks!

Great, Thanks! That looks like a nice unit. I love the fact that it is on and off road and that you can trace your trip. Thanks again for the info!

You're welcome.
