Help!! Can't Seem to Seal Chain Adjustment Plug
After adjusting the valves on my '07 DS650 it starts much better. Unfortunately, Now I can't seem to get the tensioner plug to seal. The o-ring wants to pop up and over the head of the plug when turning it tight. Tried puting in finger tight...leaks. Tried somewhat tight...leaks. Tried putting the o-ring in the casting...could not start the plug threads.
Is this a common problem, or am I being affected by Friday the 13th?? Any and all reasonable suggestions will be tried and reported on. Thanks in advance. |
What did you lube the o-ring with? Some lubricants make o-rings expand, or seem to stretch. Wipe it dry, set it in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes, give her another shot. Super O-Ring Lube works best and prevents the "stretching" effect.

Thanks for the quick reply aceisback.
It just had residue crank case oil on it. I like the frige or freezer sugestion, it's about 90 degrees F in the shop right now... trying it now. |
Fixed!!
I was being affected by the 13th. I didn't take it apart, a friend did. When I put it all back togather I put the plug from the crank case cover on the right side into the tensioner plug hole and the tensioner plug into the cc cover. Threads fit nicely. ooops. Switch them back around and presto....no more oil leak. Wow, sometimes I surprize myself at my ability to turn a hour job into hours of frustration!! |
Glad you got her figured out.
