Alone in the middle of nowhere, DS won't run...

PUSHIN, i'll send you my address so you can send me that 5 bucks.
I took off the carb and inspected it inside out...I drained the bowl...there was some grains of sand again...and some kind of "maple-syrup" looking gelly in the bucket I drained it into.
I don't know what that is....It's like gelly floating around in the gas...It like sticks together and won't mix with the gas...it just stays there...It's a brownish color.
Could that be varnish?
Oh, and I tested my needle valve and it works fine...both my pilot and main jet seem fine..but I will blow them out with compressed air anyway.
And I found the culprit....Gas does not flow freely from the petcock when it is in the "On" position....But it flows freely out and about when it is in the "Res" position. Now, I know what your thinking..."The stupid canadian is out of gas, and was too dumb to figure it out at first".
Well...My tank is not empty...I can clearly see lots of gas when looking down in the gas cap....Last time I had to use reserve....When I switched it..I could not see any fuel by looking from the top...
So, is it possible that the petcock is clogged, but only at the "On" position? Or do I just need more gas in the tank (I would try it but I don't have any gas at home...and my car is not here...and I have no drive to town. But by the eye...I'd say thats not the problem.
AND ONE OTHER THING, I noticed that my needle is crooked. It is not centered in the main jet. When I pull open the slide..the tapered end of the needle rubs against the side of the brass thing that holds the main jet...And when it is all pulled out...you can see it is uncentered. I figure that this is not normal....Is it possibly having an effect on performance?? How do I fix it?
Sorry for all the Q's....just answer what you can answer
Thanks A Lot
Jeff

sounds like you need to clean your entire fuel system i don't think i would like that much sand and stuff going thru the engine. and if i was you i might change gas stations, that pushing the ds is for no one.

TyreSpinner sounds like bad gas. Drains your gas tank remove you fuel peacock and clean it take your carburetor apart and clean it replace the needle and main jet if one is bent the other is out of shape. Then add in line fuel filter

I took apart the carb and soaked the main, pilot and needle in Carb dip. The needle is not bent...I just took it out and put it back in...and now it's straight.
Is there any special kind of in-line fuel filter I should get?
Thanks

Spinner: I had the same issue with the on position on my machine. I removed the petcock and found the on tube that has a screen at the top was clogged. Might want to check it out... or ride in reserve :] Also quit buying that irving gas

Lol, I would not trust my lawn-mower with Irving gas. I use Shell Optimax Gold 91 Octane...but when I'm stuck out somewhere...gotta use whatever there is .
Oh, and what is the line size of the fuel filter I should get?

Well guys, cured my problem.
Drained my tank (lots of crap came out) and I pulled out the petcock...Only to find it covered and clogged with...check this...leaves.
I thought I read something a week ago about someone in Aledo having leaves in their tanks?!? Is this a coincidence or what...
Wondering how the h3ll that got in there...
Anyway...unclogged and cleaned the filters on the petcock and ran new gas through the tank to cleanse out any remaining garbage in there.
Other than the leaves...I found some grains of sand and A LOT of what looks like varnish. (Brownish gelly).
I guess the bike sat for a while last winter before I bought it...maybe that stuff was still running around in there...
Anyway...Thanks A Lot to those who helped diagnose the problem and those who tried (PUSHINTHELIMIT, lol jk).
