350lb DS...Is it possable????
if your talkin about a pure drag race ds i've seen alot of banshees running with no front brakes there's your 20 lbs. and by the way,i read somewhere that 1 pound of rotating mass is equal to 8 lbs of dead weight. so why couldn't we go back down to 520 chain & sprocket?that would be at least 10 lbs. and if the rotating mass theory is correct that would be a huge jump. the 686,727 raptors get away with a 520 chain why can't we?!

For lighter tires & rims you should speak with Joe at Fullerton Sand Sports. My Sand Skate Is with competition cut are light enough I can literally pick up one tire/rim combo with one finger. How many of you guys with Skat Traks can do that without straining your pinky, eh? If rotating mass is where it's at then competition cut tires are what to get - be it V paddles like mine or straight paddles (Joe does those as well.) My tires are mounted on custom .120 inch thick 10 inch wide by 10 inch tall Douglas rims. They certainly aren't made for serious jumping but they are good at what they do.

going to 520 chain and sprockets shaves 1.5 lbs.
for drag bikes, sure a 520 chain. the tensil strength isn't the reason we have it - there are plenty of 520 chains with equal and even greater tensil strengths, its the wear factor. the added width of the 530 (pitch is same as 520) allows sprockets to last longer, and I already hook the teeth on a front sprocket twice a year.

I wish my DS weighed 450Lbs let alone 350.
I just got a new scale for hunting, hung the ol' 2000 DS from it and with dirt tires on Red Labels and front fenders the true wet weight was 530Lbs. This is with the ims tank topped off.
This is with a light ODP swingarm, 520 conversion, cut hubs, mild cut rear fenders, and no airbox. But I did add some weight back with the Blackline Propegs.
Anyone else have true wet weights? Not just guesses?
Next time I head to the dunes I will see how much I save with my sand tires on black labels and the front fenders off.
