Took a day trip up to Dumont this last Sunday and had a ball, I was able to beat 70% of the quads out there up the hill (even giving up 125lbs to most). Of course there is also quads that will be you, and I really don't mind being beat. I don't have to be the king of the hill, but it is nice to get some wins now and then. I went up agains Banshees, Raptors, Predators, 250R's, Suz/Kaw, Kaw 700's - you name it, it was there. The only rides that really surpised me were the New Yahmaha 450's. The first race against one produced a win, but when I went up against the piped/jetted rigs, I lost by about 3 DS-Lengths. I then handed the throttle over to my 175lb buddy (he rides a Shee) and he took 5 races on it with the same Yamy 450 that was beating me. The result was a pretty much dead even race every single time. Niether could pull away from each other. WOW, those things are fast. Struck up a conversation with the guy and started looking over his bike - NICE! Seems to be top drawer all the way around. The darn thing had a Yoshi pipe on it and a K&N, and was jetted appropriately. Guess I'm going to have to look to modifications to keep up with these things. Anybody selling slightly used high comp pistons?

If I were a regular sized guy, I would have a Yam 450 today. They are impressive! I wish they made more than one bike for a guy 6'10" - 325lbs. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]

 

Your DS is damn fast if its keepin up with them piped 450s cuz they fly ! I ll come down there and ride it for ya, I only weigh 145 lbs

 

DEAD EVEN!!!!! Both guys weighed in about 175 - 185. It was sure nice finded a good guy out there that was personable enough to get good info from.

My DS is fast, but come on, it's not pulling away from a 450cc machine. Guess it's all about weight..... Duh.........

this past time at little sahara i took my 440 (ds was still apart)..and i raced plenty of the 450's and i seemed to trade out wins back and forth w/them...i guess it was mainly the holeshot!!!when my clutches grabbed they grabbed and it took off....but the whoops were so bad on the flats you could barely race...so we went on the other side of the hill...you race about 150 yards down hill then you come back up a dune for about another 150 yards...they will catch me right at the end b/c of my loss of top end w/my smaller tooth front sprocket..but now since i put my 440 on alky i am just wondering if i have gained just a lil bit of my top end back???ive had no problems out running the big guys on the ds's and rappys that arent highly modded..but once you get up there w/the high comp bikes like my ds there is night and day diff between the 440 and the ds...

 

I have ran into some HIGHLY modded 450s on the flats, its a little harder to beat them, but on the steep hills at Dumont it is a totally different story ive had no prob with them...I will look for some 4-strokes on the hill this weekend.
