Went to the local motoX track on Monday with my 2000 DS650 (stock). (460lb quad with a 245 lb rider). . After getting over the shock of how out of shape I was , the riding was a blast. Lots of jumps etc and the Bomb handled them great. I usually ride desert and dunes and have never did any jumping. (at least intentionally)That bike was awesome and that is just stock. After riding alittle I started to get into a groove with the course and man it was fun. Of course ,I can barely walk this week ,but it is worth it. I can't remember the last time I had that good a time.

The only problem is now I want to do it more and that means changing parts . So I'm open to recommendations on mufflers, handlebars, and maybe ,just maybe a pair of those ,ugh, expensive shocks ( are they really worth the money?) Anyway rejetting is probably in order , ( have stock jetting now with a uni filter) how do you know if your bike is jetted right?. I always heard you check plug color is that still go for the Bomb.? Also I was thinking of dropping the stock front sproket one tooth. I was in first alot for the acceleration , and second was alittle short for the jump approach. Anyway . Thanks in advance. And would someone remind me how to pm somebody.

Also have the stock Dominators on the front and rear and will probably upgrade to the Holeshot. What pressure do you guys run at the track. I was running 4 lbs ( tires say max 5 lbs.)and someguy was telling me he was running 11 lbs in his Holeshots . Can that be right?

the DS is great for jumping Im 260lb and she handles every bit of me.( click on my pics and that me lounching off a jump at my track out back). Ill answer a few questions for ya. If your not gona race and like the stock shocks put the money for new shocks into the motor. exhaust, CDI, carb ,Tires ect. a 15t sprocket is a very good Idea helps low end. as for a tire I run the stock Baja tires but the next set will be kenda Klaws herd very good results about this tire.

I have a '03 and ride on a mx track a lot. I have works pro series front shocks $800 and a works ultracross rear shock $720. I must say they are worth every penny that I spent. I can make the worst mistake and it just soaks it up. Most people go with elka triple or quad rate shocks, but they drop the quad, and that wasn't an option with me.

Muffler- Buy a MR. HP end cap for the stock muffler and he will tell you the exact tuning for the carb and it will out perform almost any aftermarket exhaust out there.

Handlebars- I run renthal fat bars with the CR high bend. I have a trail tech riser clamp and it raised the bars enough to make it comfy for me 6'6"

Hope that helps

Justin

Thanks -Sound like alot of good info. I think I'll start with tires, bars and end cap. Is rockymountain a good source for this stuff. Thanks again. Trying another track tomorrow about 1.5 hours north of San Diego. Its got a track made specifically just for quads. Should be fun.

Where do I find those end caps. I checked RockyMountain and Chaperral and couldn't find them on either. Thanks

Those are great photos AlaskaBoy. I’ve always liked Alaska for it’s wilderness appeal and drove up twice in the ‘70’s (once by motorcycle, once by car) for vacation. I had contemplated moving up there once, not sure if I ever will (because of family ties) but I still think about it from time to time and would like to do another motorcycle trip up there one year, with a more comfortable cruiser this time since the “ALCAN” has been vastly improved since my last trip (i.e. it has been paved so I hear). It took me 6 days to get to Anchorage from MD on my M/C trip in ’76. It rained every day I was on the ALCAN and it was one muddy mess (would have been fun on my Grizzly!)…

2TV, thanks on the photos. Yes, the Alcan is paved all the way and it is a big improvement from when i drove up in 90. I moved up here on the pretense that I was going to go back to Michigan when I had alittle money but I forgot how to leave so here I am still. I can not think of another place to live, maybe the dessert's of Arizona around Lake Havasua.

6 days on motorcycle? You must of been hauling to do it in that amount of time. Did you go through Canada or come up from Montana? AlaskaBoy.
