I finally got my TM45 installed and the guys at my shop said they have never played with this carb, well i got it back and ready finally and it almost feels like i lost a little bit of power in 2nd gear, i remember how easy it was to get my wheels off the ground in 2nd, and now its not very easy at all...but 3rd-5th the power feels really impressive...it also dies if i let it idle for a little while, and also it seems like its a little groggy sometimes..is this a jetting issue or what?

What is your jetting now? Do you have the Acc Pump activated?
Give us some details, needle #, clip position Main and pilot jet.

chad, if u still have the same jets in it that i had in it when i sold it to ya....it is going to be way Rich..you proberly are going to have to go down a size on your pilot jet, and a couple of sizes on your mains. i think i have the needle in the 2nd to richest position, u are proberly going to have to move it up a slot or two....

so i take it your smoking problem went away with the change of the carb...glad to hear you dont have to tear it down....

the bike is all stock except for TM45 and ported intake, havent got to order my end cap yet. big show, whatever jet you had in it before, they went down 10...how do i get to the needle to change it? yes the smoking problem went away, and it tears it up quite a bit more than stock, but i know im still not gettin the max out of this carb, so im still a little down about that, but hopefully it'll be fixed sooner or later...

the end cap is going to be a big help, the ds is tuned for the stock carb and stock end cap, putting that bigger carb on is going to shove more air and gas in her but it cant get out any more than w/ the stock carb.
to get the needle out you will need to take the cap off the top of the carb, twist the throttle to make the slide come up and put a screw driver or something under the arm to lock it in plase to keep it from going back down. and take a small phillips and unscrew the locking clip that holds the needle down then take a needle nose and pull the needle out. good luck

i think the top of the slide has a small metric allen head bolt on top of the slide . just loosen it up a bit and push the hook part off the slide.when u pull the needle out make sure u dont loose the plastic washer under it..

i just got back from riding and i noticed that if i had my rpms up and then let off the gas all at once some smoke pours out of my exaust maybe a 3 foot trail from the end cap. should i be worried?

Cline,
Ru running a mod end cap, no lid air box? also do you have your jetting ? also do you know if the acc. pump is activated?

no, i have the stock end cap, air box lid on, and i have no idea on my jetting because i didnt go pick up my quad from the shop where i had my carb put on. should i take it back up there and tell them it isnt jetted correctly?

I would definitely take the lid off and get a end cap on that bike. it will help that carb breath. If I remember right when MRHP dynoed the TM45 against the lectron 46 he ran the TM with the air box lid on and it would not carburate (sp) cleanly. I believe thats whats going on w/ yours. so for starters take the lid off then get a end cap or slip on. you will like the results!!

sounds like a plan Sam, i'll order the end cap today..thanx

Is the TM45 the best option for a relatively stock bike with modifications limited to exhaust and air filter ?

next to a cdi box the best $$$$ spent.

i never felt the rewards of the 45 until i went 720 then it rocked. changing gearing is where i saw a hugh difference.

I've already changed gearing i.e 14T or 15T. I will be adding a RWR CDI soon and with the exhaust and jetting I've done the only modification left without breaking into the engine is carb replacement.....Maybe I'll call it good and stay with this setup and spend the extra money on a good Toy hauler!
