05 DS 650 X & Hiper Wheels

Anyone have any experience with Hiper wheels on a DS 650 X? I just picked up a set of carbon fiber wheels and have recently heard a few horror stories about the wheels failing... just wanted to get some more input.

Also, if you have a DSX, what type of hub did you buy? I am waiting on Hiper to get back to me as to which hub will work for me (looks like a Honda 450's hub should work).

No one makes any hubs for the DS. The early hiper had some bad offset for the DS the new one fix that. They work great for trail and MX, Mix reviews on desert racing some very good some very bad. They will take a lot abuse but when they go they go big. I know of one case when a rear exploded at about 80 MPH end of race lucky to be alive.

Any ideas what is it about desert riding that puts more stress on the wheel than MX? Need to put more power to the rear wheels? The last thing I'm interested in is slapping on a set of wheels that are like time bombs. I was told that the Hipers were practically bullet proof, which is why I bought them.

I almost always do trail riding with limited MX. I don't see myself ever running the Hipers in sand. I would get new tires and additional wheels at that point.

Just got off the phone with Hiper and the search continues... they don't have any idea what hub will work for me to get a bolt patter of 4/110 (DSX has 4/143).

You will have to send your hubs to MR HP to get machined for 4X110

If that's the case, the wheels will be going back Monday. I'm going by a Honda dealer today to verify that no Honda or Yamaha hubs will work on the DS axle. If that is infact the case, screw the Hipers.

What is wrong with these three wheels?

10 x 5 Front, 3 + 2 offset,
Single Beadlock DS 650

10 x 9 Rear, 3 + 6 offset,
Single Beadlock DS 650

10 x 10 Rear, 4 + 6 offset,
Dual Beadlock DS 650

There is no notations saying you have to change the hubs, and it says 4/143 at the top so it seems like they should work fine. Should even keep the same width, except for the 10x10 it would widen the rear by an inch or two it looks like. My question would be if you want dual beadlocks; is there a problem by going to a 10" wide wheel, obviously less bulge on the sidewall.

Yeah exactly. Why mess around? Go with the Douglas/OMF wheels. It's a win-win desicion.

The wheels in the front worked great. I mounted the tires and installed the wheels without any problems.

The 10 x 9's and 10x10, were said to be (by my dealer) to be only for TT type racing. No MX or XC type riding. I only do XC and MX type riding. After talking to Hiper, they said the same that the 9x9's were the only choice for the type of riding that I do.

I have already pulled the tires from the wheels (very easy to do... at least that's a plus about the wheels) and have the wheels sitting in boxes. Monday morning, I will call my dealer and talk about returning the Hipers. Shortly after, I will see what kind of deal I can get on OMF wheels. The reinforced aluminum looks more reliable in my eyes. I've heard about enough breaks and wrecks with Hipers to give up on the modular carbon fiber idea.

GREAT looking wheels in your pictures. Are those reinforced on both the inside and out? What should I ask for to get the same type of thing (black beadlocks)? I don't want any complications... I'm done with calling manufactures and dealers to try and fit wheel/axle/hub combinations.
