Does it hurt anything to bounce off of the rev limiter?

Sometimes riding wheelies I get carried away and to keep it up I am bouncing off the rev limiter. My question is am I hurting anything, I assume the limiter is there to keep me from messing something up.

Working on that, not real good at shifting with the front wheels up.

you won't hurt anything by hitting the limiter.

Normally, you wouldnt hurt a thing. However, if you have a built motor, and are running leaded race fuel, the unburned fuel can leave a lot more deposits (carbon) inside your motor. This can potentially create a problem if you bounce off the rev limiter a lot. Valves can get stuck and not close all the way. But again, This isnt the norm - 9 times out of 10, there wont be any problems.

Im sure there are people that would argue my point. Thats ok - I only know this from experience.

I've been hitting the rev limiter for the last year with my '05 DS, and it hasn't seemed to cause a problem. I have gotten to the point where I pretty much ignore it, although I do get funny looks from people when they hear it happen.

I have to agree with Newduck. Rev limiter = Shift. The only way to shift while riding wheelies is to practice! Worst thing that happens is the front end comes down! If your racing and hit the rev limiter, then your costing yourself some time. Your way past your peak power and should have shifted.

I here what you are saying, although I have had an experience racing where I had to run at the rev limiter for several miles. Such as desert racing, when you are running wide open someplace where the ATV doesn't have enough power to pull fifth gear, and you have to run wide open in fourth.
