The government needs to build a big azz refinerly right next to the strategic oil reserve for this type of problem.

I heard a statement that, There hasnt been a new refinery built in the United States in 20+ years. I think its safe to say, that we are consuming 50x more fuel now than back in the early 80's. They also said that the refineries in the U.S. are refining at 100% before the Hurricane.

Not only have they not built a new refinery in years, some of the older ones have been closed down. My grandfather worked in an oil refinery for thirty eight years in Cyril OK. They closed that refinery back in the late 70's or early 80's and there were others.

Its a sad state that the U.S. has allowed ourselfs to fall into. We need to start finding alternative fuels, build new refineries, drill for oil elsewhere in the states, and become less dependent on foreign oil. AND not in that order.

Sorry if I sound alittle forward about this. But its been crazy here in the south for days now. Several of my friends and family are directly affected by this Hurricane. This will affect everyone in this country in one form or another.

You'd think for once maybe republicans, democratics and everyone else could get together and get something positive done. Something is going to have to give!

Your right PolarisFreak, this is not a Republican or demorcrat thing its an American thing. We dont see all those countries we've been bailing out coming to our aid. Its the Americans that are going to have to ban together to right things.

Tree huggers don't want refinery's just like they don't want ATV's. I don't like paying $3.50 a gallon but will, there are some that would pay $10.00 a gallon if they COULD only get it. I feel for the ones that can't get it no matter what the cost!

There is enough oil in Alaska to eliminate the need for middle eastern oil. There was such a surplus of natural gas that companies stopped building supply lines.
