I heard a statement that, There hasnt been a new refinery built in the United States in 20+ years. I think its safe to say, that we are consuming 50x more fuel now than back in the early 80's. They also said that the refineries in the U.S. are refining at 100% before the Hurricane.

Not only have they not built a new refinery in years, some of the older ones have been closed down. My grandfather worked in an oil refinery for thirty eight years in Cyril OK. They closed that refinery back in the late 70's or early 80's and there were others.

Its a sad state that the U.S. has allowed ourselfs to fall into. We need to start finding alternative fuels, build new refineries, drill for oil elsewhere in the states, and become less dependent on foreign oil. AND not in that order.
Sorry if I sound alittle forward about this. But its been crazy here in the south for days now. Several of my friends and family are directly affected by this Hurricane. This will affect everyone in this country in one form or another.
