Default Tach option for DS650

Would anybody know if......

I were to get a tach off of a single cylinder motorcycle, Would I have any problems hooking it up?

I find all types of tachs on E-bay for cheep, and would like to know if this would work.

Thank You
Brian

Hi Brian. I have only seen a couple ds baja tachs on ebay and they went kinda high. Do you actually have a tach that does'nt work or just wanting to install one? If you are looking to buy one check out Parker Yamaha on the web, they have new tachs for a ds for around $135.00. If you have a tach that needs fixed then give autometer a call and they will fix you up. 1-815-899-0801. Good luck. RUSS

Sorry for the autometer info. Autometer has now replied that they won't repair a ds tach because of it being OEM for Bomb. So I guess I will have buy a new one if I want a tach.

Russ,

What I am looking into is some old tach from a Yamaha or Honda. I can find these all over E-Bay for less than $30.00.

I dont see why this would not work. On a typical 4 wire tach you have Power,Ground,Light, and Signal.

If you know of something that I am unaware of....Chime in.

I can't say anything for sure. But I do know for a fact that it would need to be from a single cylinder, but I think you already know that. Take this for what it's worth, I called Jeg's high performance because they also sell jr dragsters and parts for it "jr dragsters", and they offer a autometer tach that is only $130.00 or so. They told me that it would only work on a briggs and stratten single cylinder ????????, I don't know why it wouldn't but apparently it wasn't worth me spending that money to find they were right. Another thing is the size of the tach that would fit right in, it is a oddball size. I guess if you can get a tach for around $30.00 that will work for a single cylinder than it would be worth the try. But for $130.00 for a brand new ds autometer tach that will bolt right up and would be repairable by autometer for next to nothing, then I guess I don't understand why a person wouldn't go that route, unless $$ is a absolute problem. To be honest if my ds didn't come factory with a tach I wouldn't care probably to put one in. After all the ds is the only quad that I know of that has one. There may be a couple more quads out there with a tach that I don't know of, so I guess if you find one then you should give it a try. Good luck with your decision and I hope it works out for ya. If I can be of assistance let me know.
