DS Day's 2007 - Location

DS Day's is Labor Day Weekend.

2006 was the first year it wasn't at Sand Mt., NV, it made a visit to Sand Mt., Utah.

Since Labor Day weekend can still be quite warm, locations like Dumont and Glamis cannot be considered for a Labor Day Weekend DS Days gathering.

Locations mentioned:

Sand Mt., NV
St. Anthony
Pismo Beach
Oregon Dunes
Others?

Me, I'ld like to see it back at Sand Mt. at least every other year as this is where it got its start. Either every other year or every 3rd year have it somewhere else.

So, my vote is for 2007 at Sand Mt., NV

Marky will be starting a poll in the next few days. Sorry I stepped on your toes Marky. . .

I threw in my vote for Pismo... I know there is no race hill but I'm being selfish cause its close to me. Plus you can't beat the weather at the beach on Labor Day. I really want to try and get there next year no matter where it is.

ah , pismo..... 18 acres of fun. no big dunes, all the small dunes that do exist are drop off's all from the same dirrection because the wind always comes from the ocean. no race hill, a fun river crossing to get to the camping area (hope you arrive at low tide) LOL and then a nice long drive down the beach with a 50/50 chance of making it to the camping area without getting stuck. but you can pay $50 non refundable tow insurance in advance if you like to one of the busy tow truck drivers and you will then be covered should you not be one of the lucky few to make it across the beach. otherwise I guess its $200 should you get stuck? better plan on getting there early as you can as it fills up completely jam packed with crowds from LA. and how much was it a night to camp there again? the salty spray does wonders on chrome and polished parts(not that I have any) . I guess you could say Im a glass half empty kind of guy. LOL . correct me if Im wrong on any of this as I have never even considered going there and these are all just details I have heard over and over again from people who have gone to pismo and complained to me about it.

DuneMe ,the poll doesnt seem to be working as I have clicked on the link and the poll page opened up and when I desperately clicked on sand mountain nv the results show that no one has ever selected anything.

It isnt that bad SST!! yeah, the hills suck, everyone will need to get their reservations 6 months in advance, as ldw is one of the busiest weekends for oceano dunes

the creek is a non-factor in the summertime, unless there are freak rainstorms that happen a couple days prior to going

4wd is also a must. if you only have 2wd, plan on getting stuck..bring a shovel and some timber......most people that go there are nice, and will pull you out.. last time there, i spent an entire day helping people get their buggies back to camp, unstuck out of the sand, airing down (you must do this before pulling onto the beach)

I started a new poll and updated the link above.

If there is another 4-stroke wars Pismo next year you are going to have a tough time talking everyone into going to Pismo for DS Days as well.

I know it is a nice location for a number of people but, it also is very difficult for the Utah guys.

I really like the idea of a location that everyone can make it to without driving too far.

I know St. Anthony was mentioned on another thread and I love St. Anthony but, it is a long drive and if I go, it will be with my family and other dune friends for a week of riding. I don't think I drag raced at all when we were there in July. For me, it isn't a drag racing place, it is a dune place.

I'll be mostly duning wherever we go though.
