Default Clutch slipage in 4th and 5th only possible?

Last couple of trips to the dunes, whether with the Lectron 46 or the OMR stock carb, I'm getting pulled hard in 4th and 5th gear. I have a stock clutch with RWR 40% springs. It launches hard with a 2nd gear start and on a shorter drag (flat sand) I can stay right with my buddy's 04 DS..This is Lectron vs Lectron or stock vs stock, but on the longer drags where 4th and 5th gear come into play, he pulls me by quite a few..Same tires, gearing etc. Is it possible my ctutch is slipping on the upper gears only. Like I said it launches great, wheelies great..all that stuff, but top end suffers in sand. Any advice??

I don't know if your clutch is your problem but yes, a clutch is more likely to slip in the upper gears than it is in the lower gears. If it is slipping, you need to inspect it. You might be able to just resurface your plates but it is best to run a Barnett, HPR or any 9 disk clutch. You could run stiffer springs but that is a band-aid for an inadequate clutch for sand, IMHO.

DSNUT, would a new stock clutch with 60% springs work alright. My buddy has the Barnett 9 and he doesn't like the feel of that clutch..hard to find neutral and somewhat notchy.

Yes, it probably would work fine. I like the positive feel of the good clutches and i like the fact that I don't have to have such a stiff pull thanks to the added surface area the extra disk creates.

Neutral is only hard to find when the bike is running and hasen't had sufficient warm up time............in my experience. After a few minutes of ride time, my 9 disk HPR has no trouble clicking into neutral.

Good luck

You can typically feel the clutch slipping in the footpegs on ur feet and legs.....find a good harder packed section put her in 4th and while going slow pin it in 4th so it has to pull like crazy that should tell you if your clutch is gone....it worked for me on my warrior and ds650 clutches.

It seems any type of quad 500 cc and above they put junk clutches and springs in, I dont know why? But
get your self a Barnett replacment its cheap in the long run, so its one of those things down the road you dont need to worry about and as you hop up the DS.

If you go Barnett get differant springs I got the barnett system and when I was hitting the noss or pulling the hill or on the dyno real hard it would slip. I went with stock clutch and woods 60% springs and I don't have any more problems.
