I have an idea what a rectifier does, but I am not 100% sure. So I am asking what a rectifier does because I am only getting 12.5 volts when running and I need some more volts, so I need to know if I need a new one or how I can check if its good.

 

A rectifier "rectifies AC voltage from the stator to DC. The voltage regulator regulates the DC voltage to proper level. At idle you will not be getting full voltage. Should rev it up to at least 2,000 rpms. Each machine has a certain spec but should get up over 14 volts at rated rpm. 12.5 is about normal at idle. Many of machines now have both in 1 module.
