Checking '01 engine and tranny while it's out
I took my case out last week and am having a valve job done by HPR as well as going to an 11.5:1 piston. I am also replacing the water pump shaft and seals. I learned on here that the shift problems (slipping out of 2nd, finding false neutrals occasionally) I have been having are probably the shift forks. I am also going to replace the shift forks with the new and improved versions but am not planning on getting the gears back cut since I don't drag race.
So....practically everything will be apart. Is there anything else I should do since I have it out and apart? I will visually check everything but is there anything in particular I should pay attention to? I don't really want pull this thing out again any time soon. Thanks!! Even though you don't race I would have the gears back cut. It makes the tranny shift like butter. You have it apart, i think its only an extra 500 bucks.

$500 for back cut gears? wow thats a lot, how much does an override tranny cost(not that you would want one im just curious)

Not sure on an over ride tranny, keep in mind if you back cut the gears you should never have shift fork trouble again either.

Have your fly wheel lightened up while you are in there. Makes a huge difference in rev speed...
