Default 2002 Ds 650 Baja CHAIN SIZE

Hey

I need help Geeting a new chain for may ds. The stock size is a 530 but im having a hard time to get one. What is the best size to go with? also im going to change my sprockets, I want to drop a tooth on the front so i get more snap off the start. Stock size is 16 so i was going to go to a 15.
But need to find a good chain. Now going to a 520 is that to weak for the ds?

Thanks alot if you can help me on this

Stick with the 530 if you are of the larger size, and especially if you are adding power in the future. 530 is much cheaper and a whole lot easier to find. 15/42 is a nice gearing combination for alot of different riding styles and terrains. Rocky Mountain ATV has all of your needs...

Thanks for the reply
So the stock size is a 16 front sprocket and a 40 rear sprocket. Do i have to go to a 15 and 42 or just a 15 and 40?
And also what brand of chain is a good one?

Thanks

The 15/40 can be done with no issues. You're picking up torque and losing some on top end that way. Try this link out and see what you come up with that you think will provide what you're looking for. Thing about front sprockets is that they are low cost enough to play around with until you get it right.
RK, DID, are a couple of decent chains. Rocky Mountain has a good selection of chains also.
Keep in mind rear tire size comes into play along with gearing. Play with the calculator a little and it'll all come to light.
Keep us posted.

Thanks man
Well i got 22 on the rear for tires but im looking to get more off the start (snap)
Im on this track with a few buddies and they have a raptor that has a one less tooth on the front sprocket and then theres a 450r honda trx and i like hows his is so snappy off the jumps and out of the corners. I want mine to perform like that.

Thanks

I would pick up a 15T and 14T front sprocket and try each of them. Some of the big heavy guys like the 14T but I found it to be too low for my taste. Ace's recommendation of 15/42 is a happy medium between the two

I dropped to a 15 tooth front sprocket and noticed a big diff and stuck with that, also used the RK 530 X-Ring chain, 530x110 i believe it was, never had to tighten it!! you can get it at RockyMountainATV.com, the chain and sprockets there used to be cheap!

Thanks Guys
Now im just deciding from a DID, Renthal, or a RK chain. The RK is the cheapest but im looking for something that will last but NIKEDS650 you are using a RK have you had to change it yet?
I know renthal is a good name but there like $60 more

I dont have my DS's anymore, but i ran RK chains on my '02 Baja and my '04 X, and they worked so well for me that i put one on my Honda CBR600 F4i, the x-ring is a strong chain and withstands the power that the DS puts to the wheels, so thats my suggestion... and its NICK not NIKEDS650 lol

Thanks again guys
I went with a rk chain and it should be here today with the new sprockets. I also had to buy a rear axle and the sprocket, rear disk hubs too. Let just say they wern't cheap.
