Default ds650 front sprocket:15t or 16t?

My 2004 ds650 baja X is stock except for a slip on, jet kit, and a dynatek cdi. My tires are 20in (stock) and ive been running a 15 tooth front sprocket on it and this weekend i raced my friends stock 2008 honda 700xx and i got completely destroyed. He just left me in the dust as soon as he hit 4th gear and I didnt stand a chance. I was about a quad length in front of him until he blew by me. If i change my front sprocket back to 16 tooth will I still have enough bottom end to stick with him?

To sum that up, what would be faster in a 200yd. race, 15 tooth or 16 tooth?

Hard to say. Why dont you test out both and tell us? Unless your running out of gear in 5th I would say the 15T is probably quicker but again that all depends on how your shifting and launching. What gear are you launching in? WIth those shitty stock 20" tires your issue may be lack of traction and not gearing related at all.

I launch in 2nd gear because 1st is to short and i always hit the rev limiter on my 8900 rev limit with the dyna cdi. So i really dont like to launch in 1st gear. If i put my 16 tooth front sprocket back on I dont think i would have that problem and i might be able to hook up better. I will try it out this weekend and let everyone know how it goes. I figure with the stock 20 inch tires 16 tooth will work alot better.

you're way beyond max horsepower rpm, there's really no use reving past 7K on stock motor, beyond that you are losing

jetting is a mig deal too, if you are lean you are missing power especially in the higher gears
