Taking a chapter out of Yamaha's YXZ1000R's playbook, Can-Am has released a video clip of a new performance side-by-side shredding a dune near you soon:

Well its out now. One thing I have to say about it, its huge. Up to 72 inches wide, that's as wide as a truck. 154hp turbo inline 3 cylinder is very powerful and fast but unless you live near a desert or sand dunes, where are you going to ride it? Anything resembling a trail won't be wide enough. Build a 50" version and Can-Am will sell them faster than they can build them. Out west these will sell but anywhere else, its a limited market. Trying to squeeze these beast through tight trails would be frustrating at the very least if not impossible. Price is about what would be expected and I'm sure discounts from msrp on a vehicle like this would be hard to come by. So, expect at least 25K for out the door on the base model.

Yep, yet another machine that can't manage the narrow trails up here in New England. Would be a blast on the dunes but that's about it to me.

Indeed, it's official. We've got the scoop with a video of it in action here:

Its a cool machine, there's no doubt about that. That engine sounds cool too, just like the triple in the YXZ 1000. In the picture here it appears its racing across a dried out lakebed. In the desert or dunes or some other wide open area, this machine would be great. For trail riding, the extreme wheelbase and width are not something you want. I do see that Can Am is going to introduce many new models in the coming years so a 50" side by side(or more than one) is sure to be on that list. A trail machine is what customers really want. There were already plenty of side by sides like this available. The 50" models were mostly Rzrs with the Wildcat trail and the Pioneer 500 utility model as the only exceptions to Polaris dominance in that category. Can-Am will build something that will impress us I'm sure.
