Post 2004 DS650 wonít shift out of neutral

Been reading a lot of scenarios about possible shift fork problems or neutral switch issue. But I was riding and stopped to wait on a friend shifted it to neutral and when I went to shift to take off it wonít engage into gear. I have a Magura hydraulic clutch so at first I check it, nothing. Iím wondering if itís actually something with the clutch though. When I go to shift it feels as if it clicks and goes into gear, neutral light goes off but doesnít grab just stays in neutral. Any ideas? Donít feel like tearing into the motor so fast. Bike has never slipped out of gear and nothing was odd feeling shifting before it happened. I think Iím going to try and check the neutral switch then pull the clutchís apart and clean. Any info as to possible solutions would be great. I just donít feel itís the shift fork because itís not slipping out of gear and just is stuck in neutral.
