We went to the hare scrambles on Sun. Friend and I both have 01 DS's. They are way too wide and steering way too jittery to wrestle in the woods in a race. We ride trails all the time, but trying to go fast didn't work. End result, 2 bent steering stems, 3 bent wheels, 3 bent tie rods, bent set of Renthals, bent clutch lever, hurt pride and some serious bruises where mine threw me off and the bars hit me in the back. Steering stabilizers and something to correct caster is in order. Just FYI. The Raptor next to us broke a tie rod end and another bent both of them.

I am going to try flat track and TT racing no trees and the width is a plus.

After we were done I was trying to figure out a race to try with nothing or little to run into. Flat tracking came up more than once. I think they'd haul on a circle track.

Eli54 has his DS setup for flat oval right now, you should talk to him if your serious about it. It sounds like he's doing okay now that he got a chain roller that isn't going to wear out in 3 laps.

Nah i'v raced 2 district 23 races on our ds650. Both races i grabbed the holeshot and both races I did something stupid to loose. Its got AWESOME trail torqe (with a pipe at least, gives alittle more low end). Suspension rocks for the woods. The only bicker is the width, but if you are going to become a "FULL RACE" cross country person, a ds probably wouldnt be the first machine i'd choose. Its great machine, you just need to learn how to ride it to its full potential, and get a good "feel" for the quad. I had the modified ds and now i own a Lonestar 440ex and the ds still would kill it in all out "RAW POWER" and any whooped out fast trail or fire road. The ds rocks.

Heck, I'm not bashing the power or the suspension, just the weight and width. Everyone elses bikes had very loud pipes. When they dropped the board I couldn't even hear mine running. Once I was sure it lit, I caught over half the field down the straight. Just too wide for racing on trails. I don't have much trouble if we are cruising.
