Default Help with air screw

A friend of mine has a 01 DS. It has a slipon,K&N,CDI and a RWR 42flatslide. I you are cruising at a slow speed and gas it hard it stumbles and then takes off. I cant seem to get the airscrew to make a difference. Anyone have an idea on where to start. He has a 140 main and a 42.5 pilot. I jetted down and no change. HELP

Try rising the needle up. It sounds like he may be lean in that rpm range . The needle is for "fine tuning" the "power band".

Bigger.

biggerisbetter is right. the main jet only effects the higher rpm's. the needle jet controls the low end grunt. like he said raise it up a spacer and see how she does. dont forget your allen head screws. you will strip the factory ones.

Default Help with air screw

MrMeaner,

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. I have a RWR Stage 1 (with HSR 42 or 45??) I still don't know...A few people looked at the pics of it and said it was a 42, others said 45...I bought mine used with the all the mods already on it. I have a K&N filter in the stock airbox with lid on.

When u tramp it, there is a hesitation and then it flies. But that hesitation is making it hard to wheelie, etc..

I messed around with my air screw, found little results. I don't know what jets I'm using either..gonna open it up tomorrow i think. When I putter around on 2nd or 3rd at medium-high RPMs, often, If i was to release the gas to stop or slow down...it sputters, chokes and dies...

Thanks

Tyerspinner-

i had the exact same problem. Make sure all ofthe carbs breather hoses are all clear. Mine hit the pipe and melted shut, when i cut it open and re-routed it it worked fine, but the hesitation is still there. The only way to get ride of that is with an excelerator pump.
