Redcat x-200 review
#22
How have your Redcats been holding up? I haven't had any real problems with mine other than I wish the frame size was a little larger. I had it out this winter in 10 degree weather - fired right up - froze my butt off with 2 layers and a set of insulated coveralls but I ride when I get the opportunity (not as much as I'd like to these days). Is the DPX200 larger than the vx200?

I've only got about 15 hours on each. I just got registration last week (thank god). They are running well - no problems with the motor clutch or tranny on either. the dpx200 is bigger dimensions are 66.2 X 40.6 X 43.3 the wheel base is a good 4" longer than the vx and it is much more stable. I'm thinking of adding some inches to the swing arm on the vx . It's not too bad on hard pack dirt but in soft dirt or sand it's very difficult to controle - pretty scary- Even with the wider stance i've given it 41" at the rear and 42" at the front hasen't helped much and I think it's my only option . I had to weld stops back on the steering colum ,because it's so squirly the front tires would grab and cross up -not good- it was a mistake to remove them, now I know why they limited the turn radius so much . I've also gotta figure out something to do with the reverse shifter my daughter has no chance at pulling that thing up - I'm gonna open that gear box and see if I can fix it there. But the stability issue is going to be my top priority.I've gotta figure out something ,what ever I do I'll let you guys know.

Thanks for the reply. I notice the same experience on soft ground/light snow. My reverse also doesn't want to go into gear very easily - just haven't had the time to mess with it. I like the atv but I'm thinkin' I should have purchased the DPX. I think the larger frame and rim/tire size would make the difference. I did notice Redcat is going to be coming out with a larger 350 adult model. I may wait and see and just hang on to the vx200 for when my kids are a little older. I think it lends itself more towards a youth rider.

has anyone drilled the pipe or put a new one on. I just wondering if you have wht problems did you have if any. I thought about gettng a 1 1/2 inch hole saw and put all the baffles out open up the airway.

I drilled the stock pipe out on my Falcon 250 and gained a significant increase in power and speed. I cut the curve off the small tube at the end of the pipe and took a 1 1/8 hole saw which fit right around it and drilled till it came out. I then went through the next plate with the same 1 1/8 hole saw. The muffler inlet tube can now be seen where it stops about 2/3 of the way into the muffler. The sound is better and not obnoxious too. I recently welded a 1 1/2 stainless steel pipe with a small clamp flange on it to the back of the muffler. If you look at my pics you'll see what I talking about. I made several plates with different size holes and clamped them onto the flange to see if there was any performance gain with smaller holes/more backpressure. There wasn't. I can still take a small amount out of the inside of the muffler by using a hole saw that fits into/through the stainless steel tube I welded on the outlet and see if I get any more added performance. One thing is the SS tube I welded on did quiet the muffler down a little bit, taking away the raspy sound, but didn't make it sound any less intimidating or take away any of the performace increases.

I drilled out my DPX 200 exhaust with a 1 1/4 hole saw and welded a tip on. I was only looking for a little better sound. The stock air filter is boxed and the jetting was pretty rich , after the mod I checked the plug at idel , 1/4 , and full throttle it ended up perfect (tan plug).I think if you do a pipe mod with the vx air filter unboxed like it comes stock you're gonna have to rejet the carb. My only experience is with mikuni carbs. i8amm did you have to rejet your 250 after the pipe mod?

I din't have to rejet it with the stock carb and airbox attached. I did replace the stock carb with a Mikuni 34mm and naturally had to jet it to the bike. I ended up with a 210 main jet (stock keihin was a 195) and using a UNI pod air filter. Plug color is good and bike starts and runs strong.
