Default Coolstr 125cc have to start by jumping battery to starter

Hi my son in law is trying to figure out what went wrong. It was starting normal but now after taking things apart to replace the fuel tank we have to jump start it. Any suggestions would be appreciated, sorry we don't know the year he bought it used best regards Robert

When you press the start button, ignition on, lock outs set, you should get 12v across the thin wires to the solenoid. I use a high wattage test lamp, as voltmeters don't show power, just volts. If you do get power there, faulty solenoid, if you don't, one wire should be pos, t'other neg, you can test which is which by connecting test lamp from each wire to battery while pressing start button, one wire must be dead. Trace this wire back to start button, ignition, or lock-outs, by it's colour, and find where it is disconnected or broken.
