Lights auto on and won't turn off
 

Tao New Cheetah 125cc(120cc)brand new.Installed battery.Headlights and taillights turned on automatically.Key in off position engine off.They stay on until i disconnect the battery or unplug the harnesses that lead to each light.this model has daytime running lights. They should only turn on when the atv is running or at least only with key in the on position.No light switch on this model.I assume the key/starter switch would control this. On position lights on, off position lights off.I can start the ATV just fine though. And the lights stay on while atv is running.All electronics we're connected from factory. So everything looks correct nothing was crimped during my part of the assembly. Main fuse is good. Any suggestions?

I don't know your specific model. I'm assuming you have to hold down one of the brakes in order to engage the starter. In that case, battery power only gets to the starter solenoid after going through the key switch, the brake switch, and the starter switch. So I guess I would check if power is getting to the brake switch with the key switch in the off position. If that's the case, maybe one of the pins in the key switch harness connector got bent. Or a quicker test, will the starter engage with the key switch in the off position?

No, it will not start in the off position. Unit also has a gear selection display that lights up to show you wich gear your in and there's a hour running meter that turns on when in the on position. Both of those work in the on position and off in the off position like they should.

My guess would be someone at the factory fouled up and connected the wires for the lights to the wrong side of ignition switch. Try to get a wiring diagram out of whoever sold the bike, and put it up on here. If they can't supply one, that tells you a lot about their after sales service

Replaced voltage regulator, now all lights work as they should.
Now i have no spark. Polarity was crossed when battery was installed for the first time and i think it fried/damaged the regulator and stator as a small amount of smoke came from that area( brother inlaw failed to tell me this info initially) The black/red and the white wire look burnt fused together a bit above the soldering point. the copper coils are visibly darker than the new replacement. Im waiting for stator gasket ( didn't know there was one until i took the cover off and it ripped) to reinstall and check. I checked everything with multi meter before taking stator off. Couldn't get a voltage reading from stator when hitting start button. Also noticed starter will spin when hitting the start button in both the run and kill position as long as breaks applied and in neutral.

A bit strange that it ran OK until you fitted the new regulator. Quads with AC CDIs have an ignition system totally separate from the battery system, so any fault on the battery system does not affect ignition. With a DC CDI, battery power is used for ignition, but only the trigger coil on the stator needs to be working, the other stator coil(s) re-charge the battery..

Here's what i did.
First fix was replacing the Voltage regulator. That fixed the lights always on issue.
Then i had no spark.
Second fix was replacing the Stator after using a multi meter to rule out the battery, relay coil, and the ignition. Also Connected new CDI and checked for spark, before checking stator, still no spark so i put original back on. Got to stator and got an open line ohm reading when connected one lead to black/red power wire and other to green ground at the plug. So i changed the Stator (super easy on these, don't have to pull fly wheel). Reconnected everything and still no spark. So i swapped in the spare CDI again and boom! I got spark back.

Not sure exactly how the connection is between it all(maybe someone could explain how this exactly happened) but im thinking crossing the battery somehow messed up the voltage regulator, Stator and CDI and the fix was replacing all 3.
