WTB LT80 suspension

I’m looking for a long travel front end for my kids LT 80. I would like Long travel arms and shocks

koliver811 08-20-2018 01:48 PM

Go check out CT racing they carry front A-arms by teixeira which are long travel and they also have shocks. hope that helps.

There is a good reason single a-arm designs are not "long-travel". Negative camber (/ \) will be significantly exaggerated the longer the stroke...this can be kinda offset by starting with positive camber (\ /), but both conditions can have negative impacts on both handling and tread wear...just something to consider...

Also you could do the front shocks from midwest minis and make the brackets that Dirtdevil did. That is the route I went and I am currently fabricating the brackets. It is an easy and inexpensive way to soften up the ride and pick up some wheel travel.

Yup...that's a good route on a budget...that set-up is now on my neighbor's machine...his 12yo beats the sh!t out of that thing and it's held up well to the abuse!

Thanks for all the info. I may just give those Midwest minis a try with the brackets. I’ve also read about kasea 90 shocks that I’m tring to get more info on.

Friends don't let friends ride Elka's..

Still looking

Don't like the Texiera kit eh. How about the 300ex conversion kit?

DirtDevil101 10-12-2018 02:18 PM

IMHO - the 300ex conversion kit is god awful...it's ridiculously wide and if you don't widen the rear it really looks "different"...LOL

You're better off doing what I did (adding an early {85-86} LT250R front end on)...you get reasonably wide a-arms, disk brakes, can bolt up Fox Floats, corners flat and steers super easy...my boy loves it...won't even look at a stocker anymore...

What about welding the mount points on the outboard side of the frame instead of the middle? You then have the same length A arm but the pick up point is further out for more stability.

Are you referring to the stock a-arms?

Oldschool1921 02-05-2019 12:15 PM

Yeah I saw a video of a guy that used stock a arms and just welded on new pick up points to the frame.

Yes...that will add stability, but now you'll need to find longer shocks that are sprung for that machine/rider and that will increase travel and increase the negative camber I mentioned above as the suspension moves through its stroke. Personally, I think the stud extensions are just fine if you only want "stability", but I'd caution against the negative handling impact when the suspension is compressed (very little tread on the ground / \)...my $0.02...
