Looking for a Good Mud & Trail Tire!!!
#1
I currently own a 2004 Honda Foreman ES (450) which is currently using stock tires by Dunlop (25"). I live in South Florida and do a lot of riding in the Everglades at a place called "Bad Luck Prairie." So, I am looking for a tire that is great for mud and also for trails.
In my research, I know that there is no such thing as a perfect tire for both mud and trails! The type of tires that I have been looking at are the ITP 589's, the Titan 589's and the Maxxis Mudzilla's. My overall goal here is to get the best mud tire available without taking away from a good trail ride.
Do any of you riders have any suggestions as far as tires and why you would recommend them. I am also looking for your recommendations on tire sizes as well as wheels (steel, chrome or cast aluminum?).
P.S. I also have a 2001 Bombardier Traxter XT (500cc) with Blackwater stock tires (26"). I am looking for a great Mud tire for this quad. Let me know what you would suggest and thanks for your input!!!

well, 589's are great. Mudlites are like the 589's, but more trail friendly and almost the same mud capabilities. Get some 26" Mudlites on ITP C-series rims. 500ish on ebay or a little more from an online store like www.4atvtires.com or www.rockymountainatv.com

I would either go with 26" Outlaws or 26" or 27" Mudzilla's . ITP 589s are good, but don't stand a chance in the mud going against these two tires. Also you might want to look at 26" or 27" Super Swamper Vampires. Their also a real good tire that can hang with the Outlaws and Mudzilla's. I have a Rancher 4x4 and just bought some 26" Outlaws because I want to be able to rule the mud. The only bad thing about the Outlaws is that they wear pretty quick, which to me don't really matter because those tires will still perform the same until they are bald which you know takes a good amount of time. With Outlaws don't ride rocks or pavement because that is the two spots which will kill the outlaws tread. They also ride pretty rough under 10 mph. In the mud though Outlaws will kick any other tires butt. They would also look sweeter on some ITP C-Series rims ( crome ). Thats just what tires I would get and what I know. I know more, but it would take a lot longer. I also know some about the other tires I listed if you info on them too.

To answer your question a bit more specifially (i.e. mud AND trail riding), my guess that those Outlaws will ride pretty roughly on hard pack. The 589's are good tires for mud but again you'll find it a little bit rough on dirt although it's not really that bad. I have Dirt Devils and I'm pretty happy with them. They're not the best tires for mud but they do extremely well on trails and pretty well in most mudholes that I find. I have the AT series so if you got the XT series with the heavier lugs you might have a different story to tell with the mud. Don't get me wrong, I really like my tires and I can do quite a bit of mudding but if it really gets soupy they're just not the best. My guess is the 589's might be the ticket for you and even possibly the MudLites, though I've not experienced them myself.

I have just purchased a 2004 Foreman 450 and I have the 26" Mudlites. They are awesome. They are extremely good in the mud and are surprisingly smooth on hard packed surfaces. I live in Mississippi and deal with a lot of sticky mud. So far they have performed wonderfully. I had an old Yamaha with SuperSwampers and they don't hold a candle to the Mudlites. My recommendation is to go with the Mudlites.

Goodyear Mudrunners, or Interco Vamps, would be my 1 & 2 choices...

I would consider for the trail Super Swamper Vampires or ITP or Titan 589s still like I said earlier. Vamps if you do more mud than trails and on of the 589s in you do equal or more trail.

Im looking for a set of tires for an 03 Rincon for mud and trails. I called highlifter they suggested Dirt Devis XT. Has anyone ran these on a Rincon? Will the Rincon have enough power to turn 27" tires in sticky mud? What about the ride in rocky conditions?

For a combo of both trail and mud the 489XT is a great tire, as well as the Mudlite and Dirt Devil.
The more agressive mud tires such as Outlaws, Vampires, 589's, etc are going to be better in mud, no doubt, but ride rougher and be less of a trail friendly tire.
It's all about figuring out what YOU want. Some sacrafice either way is just the way it is...
