Anybody have a camper on their lifted truck?
 

I know this is for atv tires, suspension, and drive trains. But this is about truck suspension.
I have a camper (10'). I have had it on my non lifet stock truck. I pull a small (800#) single axle w/ two sport quads. I am looking for some advice. Am I crazy to put on a smalll lift and 35" tires (1 ton Chev). Is that crazy , considering the center of gravity, with the camper? Power is not a concern. Stability is. I have air bags, and will get some larger ones if I lift it.
Anybody have any clues?

It will feel squirly, this is not because of the suspension its the tires. The larger sidewall and wider tires really flex. I have A clubcab F350 with 33's and if I have a heavey load on the trailer it can feel strange, but not to bad. With the camper though I think it would feel alot worse. The truck would look good though. If you do it I would get some traction bars for the rear, a 6" lift block and lots of power/low gears causes allot of axle wrap.

So you are thinking that the tires wouls cause more sway than anything (including height)?
I wonder if I bought a tire with many ply sidewall.

Larger tires and tall center of gravity will be your wors nightmare when towing. Having air bags will help a little but it will still be squirelly. I have seen it done before though. You just need to remember what you have back there (believe me you wont forget) and take it easy around curves and watch out for crosswinds. Sure it can be done but how much compromise can you live with. Hopefully you wont be making any cross country trips. Sounds like you need to sell the camper, sell the trailer and get a toybox trailer with living quarters. VERY NICE!!!!

Depends on many things: Be sure to check the load capacity of your larger tires!

I run a 3/4 ton dodge V10, 4500 pound 10' truck camper, and tow a 3 horse trailer with 2 quads nose to tail in it.

I'm 15,000 pounds rolling down the road.

2.5" inch lift, BFG 295 tires (33.5") on 16" rims. Rear tire loads are right at max limit of 6700 pounds over the rear axle

I run air bags in back, but also run Rancho RS9000 shocks that you can click adjust the dampning which really helps with the body roll and sway.

35" tires are getting pretty big with lots of sidewall unless you go to 17" rims, but then your load capacity goes down too.

Do it up right, and you'll have no problem towing and hauling your camper.

I saw a lifted truck (with at least 33" tires) a few years ago that had rolled (with a camper) on the highway(not pretty)(medivac).
I remember thinkin to myself,,,,what the heck was that guy thinking.

Nothing like highspeed wobbles at 65, with traffic stopping in front of you, towing 4000 pounds of toys, sitting next to the wife and kids (and a starfish stain in the shorts).

If your going to do it,,,,be sure to do it right.

I have decided to go with a 3" lift, 295/85R16 Tires(33") (with a 6500 lb rating), I have a airbag set up, and am adding all new poly bushings on front and rear. I have ordered a HD sway bar set up as well. I should be ok. My camper only weighs 2800 dry, I haven't weighed it wet, but my trailer only weighs 1k# loaded. If its sketchy I will sell the camper and buy a 5th wheel, or a tag trailer.

Just be sure to get wide 35"s 35x12.5 or 35x14 or something wide. Might have to buy a tent [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]. It's the price you have to pay to make your truck look cool.
