Default break in oil

Do they use a special oil for break in and should it kinda smell like gas?? It also has a whitish tint to it. Just want to be sure my new ozark is ok, and it may not be a gas smell just a weird smell that don't smell like motor oil for my truck.

I have to stick my nose to it to smell gas so it could be normal for the new engine and after checking the color again it is more of a grayish brown all together , not any white clumps or anything. I think I will change the oil after a couple more hours of riding time just to be safe. Any more opinions on this would be great.

I would change it before you ride it again. I always change my oil and filter on a new bike after the FIRST hour, then again at 10 hours! This gets all those metal shavings out of the engine. Change the oil in your rear shaft drive, as well.

If you're going to do what Recon says, please replace it w/ break-in oil. Now I'm sure people will argue over this, but this is just my feelings on it.

Talk to the mechenic at the dealer today and he said everything is normal and do not change the oil till break in because it a special oil and that it will cause wear on the engine to put regular oil in it and it not broken in. He also said that after break in it would have more pep (power) is this for real, and will I be able to tell a difference?

you quad will have more power after breaking it in because the parts can work together better

the best breakin oil is the cheap garden variet non-synthetic stuff you can get. the oil is more viscus and puts more of a load on your rings and such

The "special" break-in oil thing is nonsense! I have 20 Honda dealers within a 50 mile of where I live, and I have asked them all. They all put in GN4, a petroleum oil. Nothing special about that. Run a petroleum oil for the first 20 hours, then switch to a good synthetic.

In fact, if you read the back of a bottle of Honda HP4 (synth blend without moly), it states that it is OK to run it during break-in. I broke my Z400 in hard, running HP4.

If you think a bunch of metal shavings clogging up your oil filter is a good thing, well then don't bother with a change!

Better sooner than later!

Suzuki and Honda are actually pretty good at cleaning out their engines, so it won't be terrible. My experience with Yamaha is that they leave all kinds of crud behind.
