Default bias and radial tires

I was trying to do some research about the radial/ply issue. I like the comfort that my o.e.m. tires (Dunlop) provide on the trails, but I'm kinda scared about going into serious mud with them. If I'm not riding on pavement, would I get about the same ride from Mudlite XTR's that I do from my factory Honda foreman tires? Thats the most likely tire I would go with.

I mostly ride on hard packed trails, the occasional water and light/moderate mud. That's when I'm hunting/camping. I also want to tackle some big mud holes just for fun, and I don't feel confident with the o.e.m. tires.
