Default Arctic Cat 400 4x4 Output shaft

The four wheel drive on my '07 Arctic Cat 400 stopped working. I noticed the boot is torn on the output shaft that leaves the front universal and enters the pinion housing allowing the output shaft to slip backwards out of the pinion housing. Can't figure out what holds the shaft in place unless the boot itself does this job. Any advice? Thanks

Looks to me that there are 2 rubber bumpers, 1 on each end, then a spring on the front end that holds it in place. Download a parts manual from <mymowerparts.com> you can see how it all goes together. See if the bumpers are there and the spring. PN 0673-618 bumpers and PN 1402-618 for the spring.

No spring found. This may have been an issue from previous owner. But that would certainly fix the issue. Thanks a million!

I'm looking at a parts diagram now...don't see the spring or bumpers. We may be talking about different shafts.
