St. Anthony's Sand dunes...

My friends and I are planning a trip to St. Anthony some time next year....Was wondering from people who have been there if you could give me some more info....Best time of year to go, where to camp and so on...it is worth the 14+ hour drive to get there? Thanks for any info..

St. anthony is a blast, I think you will find that it is worth the trip.

There are three places to camp, desert oasis, sandhills, and the blm area. I prefer desert oasis as the owners are nicer and it is closer to the bigger dunes. Sandhills is nicer with grass and trees, but the owners are jerks.

The blm area is just a gravel area and there are out houses there.

I am sure others will chime in with their knowledge of the area. I really enjoy it up there.

Oh, forgot best time of year to go. It gets booked up early for the big weekends like 4th of july or labor day. I think anytime in the summer would be great. It got hot up there when I went in July this past summer.

If you are going to drive to some dunes, these are the ones to drive to (but you should spend a day at Little Saraha in Utah, on the way, its only going to be 50 miles out of you way).
St. A's is really nice in the early summer. Its not as hot up there. May would be really nice. You will want to stay at the Egin Lakes BLM campgorund. This will put you close to the big dunes and near the lake (err pond). You can stay in town Rexburg, its about 10 mins from sand. You can stay at one of three or four private resorts that have access to sand. Some have hookups, grass, showers, and some are more primitave. I recommend staying at Egin Lakes BLM.
They don't do sound checks up there. The rangers are cool, just stay out of vegitation. There are some trails that are blocked off, stay off the restricted sand and you should be great. They have a nice sand highway, that is marked and takes you from one side of the Dunes to the other.

Have Fun!

I've met many Californians there and they said it was well worth the trip. Remember your jetting, you'll be at 5000 feet.

Thanks for the info guys! Shady, I didn't even think about the jetting...I'm not sure what setting I would need....I'm currently running a gytr slip-on, with gytr adapter plate & K&N....with a 150/155 jetting...What would you recommend up there?

Actually that would probably work fine. I know guys with K&N no lid/ full yoshi pipes running 160-165 there. I have 145-150 but may go up a step since I put on a Yoshi pipe and have a lean spot in the middle and haven't cut holes in the lid yet. So, anyway, you're close.

The Banshee guys come out from Oregon and spend a whole day jetting down before they run right, but you know those 2 strokes, fussy as a prom queen.

I've only been once but am planning to hit it at least (3) times, if not more next year. You havn't seen "dunes" until you've seen St. Anthony. Every dune there is a "sand mountain".

Don't know if I'll do many day trips though... arghhh!
