I am look into getting an outlaw 525, but don't know much about them. Are they as fast as people say they are, and are there any up grades for it.

if you want fast, a YFZ is the quad to look at ,especially if you plan on riding sand.
the 525 is faster than most stock quads but then who runs a stock quad ,so you are going to get beat if you dont do a fair amount of modding .
i can see were it would be a great on trails but then power is not such an issue as it is on sand ,as well if your serous about sand then your going to find that a longer swing arm is a must .
and dont over tire for sand ,to much tire is going to kill your performance.

a friend of mine has a 525 ,he was ''talking'' on how fast it is and how much power it has . well we finally got him on the sand, he came away a humbled person .
i run a slightly modded ltz and i smoked him time after time

not a fan of the 525irs but the 525s is a pretty good quad. there are enough upgrades for them. maybe not as much as a yfz450 , raptor 700, banshee exc. but enough to get good power out of them.

My friend has a banshee,I want to be able to out run him. the man at performance east told me that the outlaw 525 would out run a stock banshee, and a banshee with pipes. Any opinions

That depends on where you are racing, if you are hillshooting you better practice, but out in the flats it should be a very good race.

Well I am the guy that was "talking" up the 525. Its very fast, coming from someone who has actually ridden one. One thing he failed to mention is that we swapped quads and he smoked his own quad on my quad. It has alot more to do with rider than quad for the most part. It gets tons of traction with the IRS, so dont over paddle it. But it will hand it to anything stock including YFZ's if you learn to ride it and get good paddles for it. Its rematch time though this spring. I have done some "mods" that I wont discuss, so we'll see what happens. After I am done with my Wifes 300ex, it may give you a run for your money too...

I have ridden one and do like it. But I only have ridden an IRS I don't really prefer it in the dunes I liked my preddy better. I am sure the S would have been a better choice for me personally but I kinda went a different direction. It does have good power though.
