Can someone tell me what is like to ride in the sand? I have never been anywhere that had enough sand to get out of 1ST gear. It sure looks like alot of fun!!

Lots of trails, hill climbs, treeshots, you name it!

It looks like a blast.How much power does the sand rob from a quad? I geuss it will depend where i go as to which tires etc. i take.Looks like you can catch some awesome air!

Riding in the sand takes a HUGE amount of power if you plan on going up any long, steep hill climbs, or tree shots.

However, if you are just trail riding, or riding up and down less intensive hills, even a small 4-stroke such as a 250X does fine. Depends on the terrain, and the type of riding you like to do.

Some of the holes you go into are extremely steep, and the only way out is the same way you went in. These are the types of places where you want a 2-stroke, or HIGHLY modified 4-stroke to go in and out of![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img] Otherwise, you may be stuck there for quite some time!

Yes, you can catch a HUGE amount of air if you so desire!
Many of the sand dunes end with an abrupt edge (much like a cliff). If you have enough power to climb the back side of these "cliffs", or "drop-offs" as they are also called, you can indeed get a pretty good launch when cresting the top![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

Riding in sand is like........"warm apple pie" !!!! Lol...oops, forgot we were talking about riding in sand.

Sand dune riding is sweet. Huge open spaces where you can really open up the throttle. The sand dunes are never the same the next time you go riding (wind shifts the sand around). The sand does take a bit more power, and paddle tires are very helpful. But, there's nothing like climbing a steep bowl. The first time I rode in the sand I couldn't believe that a quad was capable of climbing some of the hills I saw. Get out there and try it!!!

Once you go sand you'll never go back. Well, other riding is still fun but sand rules. You don't have to worry about mud, rocks, sticks, etc. messing up your machine. The steepest and longest hills are usually sand and it takes twice as much power to get up those as dirt hills. The sand gives you every type of hill, jump, bowl or whatever you can think of. And there's nothing as cool as a 8 foot tall roost behind you as you fly across the sand flats or around the inside of a huge bowl.... Well, you get the idea. Check my site for some pics and videos.

Regular tires will get you around as long as there's no steep hills or you don't need to take off real fast. Sand takes a LOT of power away that's why you see so many 2 strokes in the sand; that's their territory. The big bore 4 strokes do well too.

Damn! I go to the SAND every other weekend, And you guy's are getting me PUMPED UP!! AGAIN. But I will be their this weekend also.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Oh,BTW, Blister, In doing some of the stunts these guy's have mentioned, You do from time to time Screw-up and fall off your quad. And thats another thing I love about SAND! It does'nt hurt when you FALL!! Not to mention that it is ALOT easier on your machine as well. I hope you find some dunes soon!

one of these days i will take enough time off work to go. i still cant imagine what it must be like, but i know i wont be dissapointed. thanks.
(i cant remember ever falling,flipping,slipping,tripping,tumbling or whatever that didnt hurt, but i think im even looking forward to that....well maybe not!!)

Sand... awe sand... that ..... won...der ...ful soft .. cushion'e stuff. Sorry I went into a mystical trace just thinking about it. As was said it's the $hit!!! Easy on the ATV and easy on the carcass. Just stay clear of the ATV when you crash and 9 out of 10 times your A-Okay! I myself go out of my way ride sand only (Pismo, Glamis &amp; Oregon Dunes). There's a huge dirt riding park (Holister Hills) that's only about 45 Min away, but I'd rather load up and make the 3 hour drive to Pismo given the choice. The Ocean waves crashing, the camp fires at night, the soft sand.. the soft sand, ah... the soft sand.. that marvelous soft sand.... Sorry spaced again.. Anyway if you &quot;ever&quot; get a chance to go to the sand &quot;Do it&quot;! you'll enjoy it!
