Dune closures- enough is enough!!

Good info Mike. I wonder if there is more we can do to help keep the dunes open? Fund raisers maybe? Some kind of email message campaign from all of our members? I wonder if perhaps we should offer to give the ASA a dedicated forum for posting press releases and the like?

Fund raisers would be great, not really sure how it would work. Maybe a raffle like the ASA does a couple times a year?
A dedicated forum would be great also, but it would have to include all sand area's somehow. There are lots of 'Friends of' groups like 'Friends of Dumont Dunes--FoDD' ' Friends of Oceano Dunes--FoOD'.
Maybe some ASA people can comment.

Anything you can do to help spread the word is the best thing around. Links to our press releases would probably do, I keep them all at http://www.americansandassociation.o...press_releases
We're in a tough fight and we sure appreciate all of your help. Our fundraisers are one way to help financially--Bombardier along with several local companies graciously have donated 2 DS 650s and a trailer to us to help! Here's how to purchase a ticket.
Besides, they already have more than 50% closed!! There's only 8% of the entire So Cal desert region that is open to ATVs. The Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area is one of the best places in the country to ride, and the lowest impact (duh, it's sand). There's already 32,000 acres set aside right in the middle of the ISDRA as a Wilderness Area, more than enough to sustain any species that can live in that hostile area. That's 50 square miles!!!
Summertime temps 120+, less than 7" of rain a year.

Greg,
Thanks for sharing the information in your message with us.
Why don't you give me a call after Christmas and we can chat on the phone about some things? The forums are good, they average 34,000 pages read each day, but we also have the magazine.

Greg said what I was going to say about the closure north of 78. so now its the original 32,000 and another 50,000 that was supposed to be "temperary" is now going to be permanent... Not to mention of the closing of hills at night with a closure, i mean "curfew".
Check out this map How much is enough???
Now is that fair? Total crap.

If we are going to win this war against the greens we must first quit fighting amongst ourselves.
All too often I hear/see/read how one guy doesn't like brand "X" . Guy that rides brand "X" wont deal with the guy on brand "Y". The dirt bikes get mad at the quads ect.
It doesn't matter if you ride red, green, yellow, blue, 2 wheels, 3 wheels or 4 wheels, dune buggy or Jeep. We all have the same enemy. We need to get together as a whole group...Not by what you ride/drive or what your preferance is.
We all need to join groups like the Blue ribbon coalition that will fight for our riding spots.
Pick up your trash, don't make new trails and do things such as search and rescue, food drives, toys for tots ect.
Get your name and pic on the front page of the paper for doing good things, not for getting cought on private property.

If you want to see why they keep closing down our dunes just watch some ATV or MX videos, there is always somebody burning something or a bunch of drunks causing problems. I think closing Competition Hill in the evenings was a half way smart idea, now the party gets moved out to Oldsmobile Hill where the people that come out in there cars can't get to. Say what you want but the main problem is the people coming out just to party, not the ones there to ride, sure some of the riders are causing problems but it is usually the non riders. Oh yeah lets not forget about the fights and the shootings, and my favorite broken bottles all over the place. Its todays society that is the problem and as long as that type of people keep going out to the dunes they will continue to close more. So blame whomever you want but what I have said is the truth, I have been going to Glamis for over 20 years, I have seen the change. I use to enjoy going to Competition Hill at night, but now I fear for my safety and the safety of others.
