Wheel Offset Question ?
Hello All,
I am getting ready to purchase some wheels and tires for my 09 Yamaha Grizz 550. I love the machine however I would like to give it a wider stance for stability. I am pretty sold on ITP offset wheels and Maxxis Bighorn tires. From what I understand the ITP wheels will get me about 1 1/2" -2" in width. I have 2 questions. 1- Will this make a noticable difference? 2- Is it standard practice to run wheel spacers with offset wheels to get more width I read somehwere that spacers with offset wheels put extra strain on the drive train and hub etc. Is this the case or is this a standard practice. Your help is appreciated!

an offset rim is a good way to get stability for sure along with a 6 ply tire(like the bighorns). when you order your rims and tires make sure you tell them how many inches you want it to stick out from factory. They have different offset options. For example; 2-5,4-3,1-6. note: each two numbers equal 7,which is the total rim width. its up to you how much you want the rim to stick out on your atv. For you question, yes it makes a difference. i have offset rims with 28" swamplites and i am ALOT more stable on off camber situations. The down fall,im technically illegal to be riding Missouri trails as the max width is 50"(which is in most states). im at 52" but i usually ride private property anyways plus the 2" isnt that big a deal around here. You wont need wheel spacers if you get the width you want. i personally would not use wheel spacer, especialy if your buying new rims. if you use your stock rims then i would use them.hope this helps.

The standard offset on the itp wheels will give you a good noticeable and stable stance, so there is no need to run wheel spacers with them. The bighorn tires are probably the best tires on the market but keep in mind when you are buying them that they actually measure about an inch taller than what the tire height printed on the tire is.
