Most reliable sport'ish quad...

I'll put my water cooled EFI Suzuki LTR450 Quad Racer up against anything you got in your garage any day of the week. I'll run a 40mi endurance loop with you and we will see which rider and quad is still running in the Mojave desert heat after we are done.

buddy, i know you spent your hard earned money on the ltr and love it, thats great. but dont think you have yourself the best of both worlds. with that performance comes a price, and thats reliability over the long haul. once it does break, i hope you can atleast fix it yourself because between the cams, valves, efi and everything else, it wont be cheap even if you do it yourself! price a whole top end on a modern 450....

oh and ive owned a few 450s in the past and currently am trying to get rid of a 450 dirtbike because i shudder to think what it'll cost in parts if/when the topend blows

I have a 2007 Bombardia ds650x and love it. I use it to go trail riding at higher speeds. It does OK on the trails, but it doesn't like to go slow (has a weired gearing difference between 1st and 2nd almost like it needs a 1.5 in between there). It is a heavy quad, and no reverse. If you are a larger rider like myself (240lb) you should have no problem, my friends have complained when i let them ride it, most of them are 150-170lb riders. I have had no issues with it being reliable. Like i said I love it. I hope that info was helpful, any questions feel free to pm me.

That's why I have quarterly maintenance done to it so it will last awhile.

right, and it will last a while, but NOT as long as a less stressed motor like the 400ex, z400 or the big rotax ds650. thats all i was getting at. its not justy the ltr, its all the 450s. id rather a 2 stroke over these money pits any day and thats why my mx bike is a 2 stroke

I would go with 400ex and look for one that is stock and adult owned and cared for. Most the rebuilds you see are 400ex's that have a million miles on them. Another thing about the 400ex that I love is that it is easy and fun to ride. So easy sometime you don't even notice that you are going way faster then you should be. I can ride it with the big boys and ride it with the kids it works for everything! Thx

Looking to purchase a 2wd sport quad for trail riding. I don't need mega horsepower, just something reliable.
I'm open to anything, I just want a low maintenance machine motor wise.
I've heard the Yamaha and Honda 450's should get a rebuild ever 20hrs or so.
I was hoping to get utility quad reliability in a sport quad (500+ hours on a motor)
300EX comes to mind, and so does 400EX.
The Polaris Preditor i'm not sure about, but I assume it similar to the YFZ450/TRX450R in terms of engine life what is geared more toward racing.
The older Suzuki 400Z comes to mind as well, as they used the watercooled reliable powerplant from the DRZ400 dual sport bike.
Bombardier DS650 seems like a hog of a motor, but not to sure what this engine is designed for either and how reliable they are.
Not a big fan of the Yamaha Raptor/Warrior, but these would make good choices as well I assume because of the low compression/rpm motors.
Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,

1st of all dont listen to this guy! hes stuck in the 80's with his thinking. all the japanese make reliable stuff and have for years. even polaris' hold up nowadays. the price of parts really depends on what you're replacing... oh and id never buy a 300ex for $800 that was rebuilt, so take what he said with a grain of salt. ive owned many many quads including hondas by the way

A 400 would definitely be the way to go in my opinion. A 400ex, LTZ 400 or a Z400, you can't go wrong, just don't get a DVX 400, Arctic Cat knows sweet little about making sleds and even less about making quads. And do not get a Polaris Predator, worst thing I've driven, and a major pain in the *** to work on too, didn't score any points with me. I hear from alot of people that Suzukis are unreliable, but I cant say for sure since I've never been around them. I have had really good experience with Kawasaki and Honda though, I've been lost out in the woods alone many times on my Lakota, but I always make it home.
