What size for 13y/o girl's first ATV
 

I've been reading a lot, but mostly find info on younger kids & adults.

I need a recommendation on size - My daughter just turned 13 - she is 5', 94lbs. Pic in my album to help gauge her athleticism/fitness level.

She drives a friend's Rincon and Recon - auto and shift (prefers auto)

The ATV "selectors" say she should ride a 90cc BUT on youtube it's always a 8 year old riding a 90cc. I want it to be fast enough and not too fast - there was a Honda 250 sport for sale, but my mechanic said it was too fast for a kid.

Florida - mostly flat trails, mostly private land, no mud.

Advice on size please - what size bike does your 13 y/o daughter ride? Thanks so much.

Your state may have a limit like here where you have to be 16 to ride anything bigger than 90cc. It's a stupid law that doesn't take into account how big a kid is but I don't know if they have anything like that in Florida.

same law here in mass. 11-16 yo on a 90cc max.

but- to answer your question, that 250 is a fine size for a 13 yo- you can always use the throttle stop to restrict the throttle.

fwiw- I feel the best atv for a child is the largest one they can comfortably handle- the smaller atv's are so unstable around corners and on hills. I bought my son (8yo) a chinese 110cc atv and he rolled that thing all the time- it was so tippy (here come the jokes :rolleyes: ) I'd rather restrict the throttle to keep it slower and have my kid on a larger, more stable atv. I think that honda trx250 ex would be awesome for a 13yo girl (or any other 250's out there) ;)

I would not recommend she ride any other person on the back- that's just looking for a bad accident- especially on a little 250- there's hardly enough room for one person, never mind 2. having any weight behind the rear shock will change the stability of the atv a lot and things happen way to quick-

Recon, Bayou, or any 250 utility would handle her and a friend and do just great in Florida and the utility will not be as fast as the sport.

It sounds like she has the riding skills already from riding her friend's Recon. Recon, or any of the 250 quads are a great starter quad for a kid or teen with experience. Gives them plenty of time to grow. I've even been on Recons and 300cc machines. They moved my 350 lbs. fine. Not sure how the suspension felt about it.

Nice to hear your son is taking after you, Beergut. Maybe not....
