Default zillas tire size..sizing is kinda off i hear

So i am looking at a set of zillas for me 2010 550xp.
It is stock with 26" tires on 14" wheels.
M first idea is 27" zillas on 14" wheels but i am reading that they run small...so with that said maybe 28's to get a true 27" tire.
anybody able to confirm this mislabelled size?
the quad has polaris fender flares on it and i think that if 28's are really 28" tall then they might hit the flares. but should the new wheels come with a greater offset then i would like to keep the flares to cover some of the mud that will surely fly.

so do they run small ?

and on a side note...do you think i will lose much power due to the change in the gearing cuz of the bigger tire...i know zillas are light but gearing...hhhmm... remember its a 550xp....not a monster sized motor....lol

thanks

I have mudlite xtr the radials on my wifes 550 and they seem great. They are 27''. I am also assuming the xtr are heavier than the zillas. I think the 550 will turn them no problem. Some people on lore mud oriented forums are running 30'' tires stock on the 550. I am not sure about clearance with the fender flares. It easily cleares the 27.

I have the 26" zillas on my 500 and they are close to size. The front with 5lbs on the ground measure up at 25 3/4" and the rears 25 1/2". I've read in many reviews that the 27" actually measure at about 26". As far as power loss, I haven't noticed any what so ever. But the increased traction is above and beyond many tires I've tried. On a side note, they don't ride very well at slower speeds on paved roads. a lot of vibration up front. At 20 mph they do smooth out a bit, but you still feel it in the handle bars.

So., I got the zillas today. The 28's measured 28" across the 3 to 9 oclock position. Figured the vert measurement would not be so accurate. Anyway they are 27.5" in the vertical, loaded direction.
Havent had a chance to test them out really but they fit the 2010 550xp tight but all okay. tight was expected. power was fine, no loss there....maybe a lil of its "snappiness: was lost from a dead stop but that is to be expected going to 28's from 26's.
Overall happy with there overall agressive appearance and stance so they were worth the purchase.

For the price, Zilla's are fine. I'm sure you will be pleased.
