The Superwinch from Cabella's Moose mentioned earlier is still a great deal. I suppose those Champion winches are good too. I see them at Walmart though its the smaller 1500 lb version for $70. If you can get a 3000lb one for $100, that sounds like a great deal. This might be the deal you're referring too here https://www.amazon.com/Champion-Powe...pion+atv+winch. Its actually slightly under $100. I don't the specific mounting kit listed but you probably can contact them to find one for that winch.

That's the one Greg... Universal mount if I remember right. The mounting holes on the winch lined up perfectly with the atv.

Champion winches are getting more popular here either. Never thought they are these inexpensive yet are very capable.

Sounds like a winner to me, mount included for $99 and free shipping.

My 350 came with a 2000lb "Viper" that is impressing me so far. They are some sort of no name brand.
|
Viper is actually a very good winch company these days with high quality standards similar to Superwinch, Warn, and others. Far from built in the USA though...but geesh what is anymore?
|
I had a viper winch on a Grizzly before. It lasted about a year and the gears stripped out. I might have just had a defective as I barely used it. I wouldn't consider it to be a quality product. This was about 8 years ago, perhaps their quality control is a little better now. If it says viper on it, you can bet I'm still not buying it.

Whatever you do, do not buy a Badland winch from Harbor freight. I burnt up 3 in a very short period of time (all under warranty). I ended up going to the Super winch 3000 which has never let me down. A lot of my friends have them on their SxS's also without any issues, and their customer service is great.

Instead of starting a new thread I figured I would ask here. If I buy a winch and decide to convert the cable to rope, do I also need to change the fairlead or whatever for the rope vs cable?

It's not a requirement to change to a fairlead. But there is a possibility that the rope will get caught between the rollers. It was cheap insurance and better peace of mind that I did. |
